In 2010, Houston businessman, Jim Crane, purchased the Floridian from H. Wayne Huizenga and quickly turned the spectacular property into one of the Nation's premier golf clubs. Renovations of the property began in the late Spring of 2011. In just seven months, the Floridian re-opened with a freshly renovated clubhouse re-designed by architect Peter Stromberg and interior designer Rod Mickley; a newly constructed Spa/Fitness Center overlooking the Club's Marina and the St. Lucie River; two new cottages; a newly constructed state-of-the-art Teaching Center designed to the specifications of Floridian's own Butch Harmon; and a completely reconstructed golf course designed by world renowned Tom Fazio.
Crane's experience in the freight industry was put to use as the pace of the golf course construction was most impressive. During the first five weeks of the project, 10,000 truck-loads carrying 262,000 cubic yards of dirt and 87,000 tons of sand cap material were brought on site. Once the shaping of the golf holes was completed, the focus turned to landscaping. Over 2,600 trees were transplanted from different areas of the property. When the transplant material was depleted, 1,000 more trees were purchased. In addition to the trees, over 60,000 plants were brought in for placement throughout the course. The result was a completely renovated golf course that fits within the native preserves and wetlands as if it has been there for years. Floridian members now enjoy one of the country's best golf clubs, all the beauty of the unspoiled native habitat and preserves, and convenient access to the Treasure Coast beaches with everything South Florida has to offer.
Additionally, Floridian members and their guests have access to one of eight cottages, a 68-slip deep water marina, the Club's 61-foot Viking Yacht, 24-foot Hurricane Deck Boat, and the Club's private helicopter service with two on-site helipads. And now, select few resident members have the opportunity to build remarkable home-sites with wide-water views of the St. Lucie River. These breathtaking home-sites and world class amenities complete the ultimate National golf club in a spectacular tropical sanctuary.
